HARTFORD – Archbishop Henry J. Mansell incardinated Father Grzegorz (Gregory) Jaworowski into the presbyterate of the Archdiocese of Hartford on June 6 at the Pope Pius X Chapel at the Chancery.

Originally from Poland, Father Jaworowski came to the Archdiocese of Hartford in 2006 from the Archdiocese of Sens in France, where he had ministered for 11 years. Since arriving in Hartford, he has performed pastoral ministry at various parishes, including Assumption and St. James in Manchester, and St. Stanislaus and St. Ann in Bristol. For the past 18 months, he has been ministering at St. Jude in Derby, where he will continue to serve as a priest.

Incardination is the canonical act by which a cleric is severed from a previous diocese and formally attached to a new diocese, where he is subject to its superiors. It is an ancient canonical concept ensuring stable pastoral service. Father Jaworowski said it was important for him to become incardinated in the Archdiocese of Hartford so that he could serve the faithful on a permanent basis.

"I am so proud to be incardinated. This is an important day for me," he said.

At a reception following the ceremony, Archbishop Mansell said that Father Jaworowski’s 18 years of experience as a priest and his ability to speak several languages, including English, Polish and French, bode well for the archdiocese. He also described Father Jaworowski as a very active priest.

"He engages parishioners of all ages. He is a very involved priest and includes people in the work he does," said the archbishop.

Present at the ceremony were: Auxiliary Bishop Christie A. Macaluso; Msgr. Gerard G. Schmitz, vicar for priests; Father Alvin LeBlanc of St. Ann Parish in Bristol; Father Adam Hurbanczuk from SS. Cyril and Methodius in Hartford; Father Janusz Kukulka from St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Derby; Father Andrzej Pogorzelski from SS. Cyril and Methodius; Father Jeffrey V. Romans, assistant chancellor and secretary to the archbishop; Todd Barbieri from Assumption in Manchester; and Mr. and Mrs. Wojtech Pastuszak, friends of Father Jaworowski from Sacred Heart in New Britain.
