Archbishop Henry J. Mansell celebrated the daily televised Mass this morning as part of the U.S. Bishops’ ‘Fortnight for Freedom’ campaign, a two-week initiative that emphasizes prayer and Church teaching on religious freedom.

The Mass was broadcast on WCTT-TV by the Archdiocese of Hartford’s Office of Radio and Television.

Parishes throughout the archdiocese and nationwide are participating in the initiative in various ways, from special prayers to eucharistic adoration, candlelight processions, film showings and more.

The purpose of the initiative is to garner support to overturn the federal health care mandate that will require Catholic organizations to provide health insurance coverage for procedures that run counter to the Catholic faith, such as surgical sterilizations, pills that may induce abortion, and contraception.

In his homily, Archbishop Mansell said that the Supreme Court is expected to rule on the health care act before the end of the month.

“It’s a critical moment; it’s a marquee moment in the history of our country,” he said. “But we have to keep up our prayers; we have to keep working; we have to keep praying. It’s all in the hands of God.“
