HAMDEN – Three members of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sister Carolyn Brown, Sister Cara Grace Kissell and Sister Kathryn Press, professed their first vows during a eucharistic liturgy on Aug. 4 in Sacred Heart Chapel at the order’s provincial house.
At the same Mass, Sister Susan Francis Graham, Sister Colleen Patricia Mattingly and Sister Carrie Christine Zagurskie renewed their vows as junior professed sisters.
The main celebrant was Father Dominic Anaeto, professor of pastoral theology at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell.
A reception in the cafeteria at Sacred Heart Academy followed.
The celebration concluded a weeklong retreat that focused on foundress of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Mother Clelia Merloni.
Sister Carolyn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brown of Laurel Hill, Fla. Formerly a student at North West Florida State College, she will continue her studies at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo.
Sister Cara Grace is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Kissell of Davie, Fla. She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and attended Florida Atlantic University before entering the community. Sister Cara Grace will continue her studies at St. Louis University.
Sister Kathryn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Press of Findlay, Ohio. She graduated from St. Pius X Catholic High School in Atlanta, Ga.; earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in religious studies, cum laude, from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind.; and received a Master of Divinity degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis. She will serve at St. Ambrose School in St. Louis.
Sister Susan Francis, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Graham of Euless, Texas, is a cardiovascular care nurse at St. Anthony Hospital in St. Louis.
Sister Colleen Patricia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mattingly of Jacksonville, Fla. She teaches at Cor Jesu Academy in St. Louis.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Zagurskie of Homer City, Pa., Sister Carrie Christine teaches at St. Ambrose School in St. Louis.
The Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus are actively engaged in the ministries of elementary and secondary education, special education, social and parish ministry, health care and immigration ministry.
