Study says mask causes greater perception of pain and anger in the brain

A new study, developed by researcher Joao Alves, under the guidance of Professor Freitas Magalhães, Director of the Facial Expression of Emotion Laboratory (FEELab), at Fernando Pessoa University (UFP), in a Portugal, argues that mask use disturbs emotional communication.

Freitas-Magalhães explains that the behavior is not new.

This is “inherited and evolutionary, and in particular reinforces the instinct to map pain and anger into the selective survival process.”

The findings confirm the “priority of the brain’s instinctive behavior when human survival is at stake,” concludes Freitas Magalhaes.
