Swimming World Cup: Covid impact on US and Britain | Swimming

At least three athletes from the United States and Great Britain were expelled from the World Cup by protocols to control the explosion of the Covit-19 in a narrow swimming pool (25m) in Abu Dhabi. Olympic champion Tom Dean of Tokyo, Britain’s gold medalist in the 200m freestyle in Tokyo and American Lydia Jacoby in the 100m breaststroke in Japan will no longer swim in the United Arab Emirates.

Another American, Katie Grimes, was also singled out for isolation – she qualified for the 800m freestyle final this Saturday, but was withdrawn. It has not been released whether they tested positive for the disease or had contact with an infected person.

Their cases are the most blatant of the casualties caused by Kovit-19 at the World Cup in Abu Dhabi. The 15-year-old Canadian Summer Macintosh is another who abruptly said goodbye to the competition.

As of this Friday, FINA (International Swimming Federation) has confirmed seven positive cases in tests conducted at the Etihad Stadium, the competition venue. To try to speed up the process, the event organization and organization set up a test center.

According to the Swimswam website, which specializes in swimming coverage, most of these positive cases are from Singapore and Nigeria.
