Mercedes-Benz presents a prototype of an electric car that will travel 1,000 km on a single charge – 01/03/2022 – Market

On Monday (3) Mercedes-Benz presented a prototype of electric car Which the automaker claims is able to travel a thousand kilometers on a battery charge.

According to the automaker, the Vision EQXX, will have a power consumption of less than 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per 100 kilometres. Tesla Model S 60 currently consumes 18.1 kWh over the same distance.

Vice President of Technology Markus Schaefer told reporters that Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, will test the prototype before the middle of the year on different types of terrain.

Schaefer said some components of the prototypes will be integrated into Mercedes-Benz cars within two to three years. However, the executive did not specify when the Vision EQXX’s 1,000 km range battery might be made available to market.

“We’ll probably be the first to come up with a car with a practically 1,000 km range, with such a small battery,” Schaefer said.

When the model goes on sale is a “market decision” that is made once the automaker determines how much autonomy consumers want from their cars and how much they are willing to pay for it, the executive said.

Mercedes-Benz said the prototype, which was built in 18 months, “puts an end to autonomy anxiety,” referring to one of the main obstacles to faster adoption of electric cars.

The prototype required the development of a new battery pack, which Mercedes-Benz said has a size compatible with a compact car and has an energy density close to 400 watt-hours per liter.
