The removal of pilots by Covid led to Mexico canceling dozens of flights

More than 60 Mexican airline flights were canceled in the past 48 hours after 87 pilots tested positive for Covid-19, industry sources said on Friday.

The Mexican Pilots Association (Aspa) has indicated that 83 pilots from Aeromxico and its Connect subsidiary and four from Aeromar have tested positive for COVID-19. They were placed in isolation as dozens of crew members took off from flights for testing.

This resulted in the cancellation of 22 flights yesterday and 43 flights on Friday, all from AeroMexico and Connect, according to the capital’s international airport.

After flights were canceled, Aeromxico’s stake fell 16.52%, adding to the strong setback in December, amid a restructuring under US bankruptcy law.

The main destinations affected by the cancellation were Guadalajara (west), Cancun (east) and Monterrey (north), as well as a flight that was supposed to depart from Seoul, but was canceled due to two cases of Covid among the crew, he said. Aspa.

Other activities in Mexico had to be postponed or canceled due to infection with the new coronavirus, such as football matches and sessions of the Mexican Congressional Committee.

The Mexican government has acknowledged the increase in the number of cases of the disease, but has ruled out new containment measures, because the number of hospitalizations remains stable.

In Mexico, the number of infected people reached 4 million, and 299,933 died, according to official figures.
