Poultry and swine production costs started in 2022, posting a strong monthly increase according to studies published by CIAS and the Embrapa Poultry and Swine Center (embrapa.br/suinos-e-aves/cias). The Pig ICPS index rose by 6.78% in January compared to December 2021, bringing the index to 427.69 points. The ICPFrango index rose 5.63% in the same period to 426.26 points.
The increase in ICPSuino was affected by a 6.50% change in operating expenses with animal feed, which represented 82% of the cost of pig production. As a result, the total production cost per kilogram of live pigs produced in a full-cycle system in Santa Catarina increased by R$0.48 per month, to R$7.48.

In ICPFrango, the increase also resulted mainly from the effect of expenditure on feeding (5.13%) and on the purchase of 1-day-old chicks (0.35%). The cost of producing a kilogram of live broiler chicken Paranaproduced in a cage air-conditioned with positive pressure, increased by R$ 0.30 in January compared to December 2021, reaching R$ 5.51.
The states of Santa Catarina and Parana Used as a reference in the calculations because they are the largest domestic producers of pig chicken and broiler chicken, respectively.
