Only the volume of dividends distributed by Vale (VALE3) By Petrobras (PETR4) In 2021, the market capitalization of companies the size of BTG Pactual Bank is equal to (BPAC11)reveals a survey conducted by “Econometrica”.
According to the financial information provider, the total dividends and interest on shares distributed by these companies amounted to R$ 146 billion in 2021, while the market capitalization of BTG Bank on February 24 of this year amounted to R$ 136 billion.
Vale’s dividend and interest income amounted to R$73.287 billion last year, the highest nominal amount ever distributed by a publicly traded company. On the other hand, Petrobras paid its shareholders 72.718 billion Brazilian reais.
The survey takes into account data indicating corporate cash flow from 2005 to 2021, intended exclusively for the payment of dividends.
In the case of Petrobras, it still has 37.3 billion reais for 2021, but it will be distributed only in 2022. According to the company, the total dividend for the past year was 101.4 billion reais, which is a record amount for the oil company.
Of the 20 largest annual distributions of profits made by Brazilian companies, eight were made by banks in previous years, among them Itao, Santander and Bradesco.
The list also includes the dividends made by Ambev in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2021.
Even taking into account historical values adjusted for inflation, the Vale and Petrobras distributions also top the list.
