After talks with the Biden government, Venezuela begins to release imprisoned Americans

Two former directors of CIDCO, a subsidiary of the Venezuelan state oil company, have been released.



From the regional news agency – Venezuela on Tuesday released two of its 10 imprisoned U.S. citizens after the two governments began talks aimed at resuming oil supplies and bilateral relations in general.

The television channel Telesur announced that Gustavo Adolfo Gordனாnez and Jose Alberto Fernandez were both directors of Bitcoin (Petrolios de Venezuela), a state-owned oil subsidiary of SIDCO.

The move follows a high-level meeting between US and Venezuelan government officials.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro acknowledged at a press conference in Caracas on Monday that the two sides would discuss and discuss bilateral issues.

This is the first direct meeting between the two countries since 2019, when the Maduro government severed ties after the United States failed to recognize its victory in the presidential election.

In this sense, the President underlined that they had a “respectful, smooth, very diplomatic meeting” that lasted two hours in the Presidential Palace in Miraflores.

“We talked for almost two hours,” Maduro explained, adding that in terms of respect and diplomacy, “his government has every intention of pursuing an agenda that will allow peace for the people of our region.”
