UFC: Blaydes knocks out Chris Daukaus for second straight win | Fighting

Anyone who still thinks Curtis Blaydes is “just” a wrestler is wrong. The American heavyweight once again showed the power of his hands on Saturday in the main event of UFC Columbus. “Razor” landed a straight right that brought down fellow countryman Chris Dawkos and leveled the bill with kicks for the downed opponent, leaving with a TKO win at 17 seconds into the second round.

Blaydes is best known for his wrestling, and this time he doesn’t mention capturing the Daukaus. In the first round without much emotion, he kept the opponent at a distance using a jab and right, even opening a cut on Daukaus’ left eyebrow with a right punch. In the second round, Daukaus wanted to go stand with a low hand and paid a heavy price. Blaydes landed a direct hit and knocked the opponent to the ground. After a few sledgehammers, referee Herb Dean was declaring the fight over.

“Razor” has his second straight win, his fifth in his last six fights and his third TKO victory in this sequence. In addition to telling rivals that it’s best to prepare because he can catch a hit, the American requested a temporary title fight against France’s Cyril Jean (current champion Francis Ngannou is expected to be out for nine months after surgery on his knee).

– I think I deserve to fight for the temporary belt against Jen! May it be June, July, whatever, I’m ready – exclaims Curtis Blades.

Kara-France qualifies for the belt

In a fight that could determine the next contender for the top spot in the flyweight, New Zealander Kai Kara-France defeated Russia’s Askar Askarov by unanimous decision (29-28 triple) in a highly balanced match. The first round was all of an ascrove: grabbed the opponent, knocked him to the ground, carried his backpack, and nearly finished with a naked rear choke.

However, in the second round, Team Kara-France came back chomping and stole the fighting moment with a straight right that stirred the crowd. A group of crosses injured Askarov, and the left went to the Russian’s chin several times. The last round was the most even. Ascrof tried to pack the New Zealander again, but ended up falling to the side. Kara France even upset the Russian balance with a low kick and had a small advantage on his feet, enough to win the round and fight.

This was Askarov’s first defeat after 14 wins and one draw. Cara-France won third in a row and said Brandon Moreno should face champion Davson Figueiredo soon, but he wants his next shot in the belt.

Brown and Barberina show off batting

as expected, Matt Brown Brian Barberina gave a very crowded fight. In the second round, very evenly, Barberina opened a cut below the home fighter’s eye, but Brown almost finished with a triangle choke. In the last round, it was Brown who cut his opponent’s forehead with his elbow. The two publicly traded for most of the tour and walked out with a standing ovation. But in the end, the crowd booed the split decision in favor of Barberina (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) — Columbus, Ohio, home of Matt Brown.
