Salmonella: Amazon recalls UK chicken products

Amazon, an online retailer, has called up the supermarket and cafe chain, along with Aldi and Tesco brands to recall dozens of products containing chicken in the UK. The reason for the recall is the fear that they may have been contaminated by Salmonella.

The British fast food company Breit A. Manger also pulled all the ingredients containing chicken from the shelves. Supermarkets such as Aldi and Sainsbury’s have taken out sandwiches, wraps and other items with the food.

British supermarket brands Waitrose and Marks and Spencer have also recalled chicken products due to the fear of Salmonella.

Health risk

According to local media, it has not yet been revealed whether anyone is sick after eating one of the listed products. However, there have been reports of cases of food poisoning.

The UK recently had another salmonella-related outbreak when Kinder Surprise brand chocolate eggs were recalled by Ferrero due to a “potential link to disease”.

Supermarket chains have released a list of affected items – most products are sold only regionally – and provide alerts to customers so that if they purchase one of the collected items, they can return it to stores and receive the full amount paid. .

Serious infection

According to the Ministry of Health, Salmonella (Salmonellosis) is a bacterium belonging to the enterobacteriaceae family that causes food poisoning and in rare cases can even cause serious infections and even death.

Animal feces are spread through ingestion of contaminated food, and the bacteria are commonly found in domestic animals such as chickens, pigs, reptiles, waterfowl, cows and dogs and cats.

Salmonella can cause two types of diseases depending on the serotype: non-typhoid salmonellosis and typhoid fever. Symptoms of non-typhoid salmonellosis may be quite undesirable, but the disease is generally self-limiting in healthy people (although in some cases it can lead to death).

Typhoid fever is more severe than non-typhoid salmonellosis and has a higher mortality rate. In most cases of non-typhoid salmonellosis, symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, fever and diarrhea (FTD) usually last for a few days and subside within a week.
