In the year he celebrates his 80th birthday, next October 26, and 60 years of his career, Milton Nascimento is preparing to bid him farewell on stage. Last Sunday night (15/5) it was announced the dates of the shows that will mark the singer-songwriter’s exit from the scene.
The city of Belo Horizonte will host the final show of the tour on November 13 in Mineiro. Two more dates have been announced in Rio, at Jeunesse Stadium, on August 6 and 7; And in So Paulo, at Espao Unimed (formerly Espao das Américas) on August 26 and 27.
In total, 17 offers were announced. In addition to the six that will take place in Brazil, another 11 will take place abroad, between Italy, the United Kingdom, Portugal and the United States.
“I could never have ended this part of my life so many years on the road without honoring those who have been with me all this time: the fans. This tour was made just for you!” This was stated by Milton, in the promotional material.
The repertoire of performances will cover different phases of the artist’s career, among them such classics as “Ponta de Areia” (1975), “Encontros e goodbyes” (1985), “Travessia” (1967), “Cio da Terra” (1994) and “In the Dances”). Life” (1981).
For Milton, “It would be impossible to say goodbye without putting into repertoire songs from all phases of his career.” “We want to deliver a unique and exciting experience, from start to finish,” he adds.
Milton Nascimento’s career in music began in the 1960s. Born in Rio de Janeiro, but raised in Pontas Cors, within Minas Gerais, he began his career as a member of dance troupes, until he moved to Belo Horizonte, where he developed his songwriting side.
Even before his debut, the artist performed one of his compositions by Ellis Regina (1945-1982). Cano do sal was released in 1966 by the artist.
The following year, Milton Nascimento joined the singer and composer from Minas Gerais, Fernando Brant (1946-2015), with whom he composed the song “Travessia”, which gave the name of his debut album.
Three years later, in 1970, on the album “Milton”, he started the Clube da Esquina movement, releasing a homonymous song, written jointly with L Borges.
Only in 1972 was the album “Clube da Esquina” released. The work was responsible for bringing Minas Gerais into the Brazilian music scene. Recently, it was voted as the best Brazilian album of all time in a poll conducted by the Discoteca Bsica podcast, in which 162 professionals from various fields related to music production participated.
This work, which later ended up giving its name to a historical musical movement involving artists such as Beto Guedes, Ronaldo Bastos, Wagner Tissot, Taviño Moura, Toniño Horta and others, turned 50 this 2022.
But the legacy built by Milton Nascimento doesn’t stop there. Since his debut in 1967, the singer-songwriter has released 32 more studio albums and eight live albums.
In recent years, the artist has devoted himself to re-recording songs that marked his career, as well as translating songs by other artists, such as Gilberto Gil’s “Drew” case, which Milton recorded in partnership with pianist Amaru Freitas. Released in 2020
In the same year, he released the EP “Existe amor” (2020) in partnership with Criolo, with four unreleased recordings produced in 2018 produced by Daniel Gangaman.
The meeting with the rapper took place in São Paulo again on the album “Sobre Viver” (2022), released by Criollo on the fifth. And Milton participates in the song “I am cut in the mouth of heaven, death does not ask for forgiveness.”
The artist’s last partnership was with singer Liniker, on the album “ndigo butterfly anil”, which she released in 2021. Bituca sings on the song “Lalange”.
Farewell tour does not mean the artist’s retirement permanently. In an interview with the newspaper “O Globo”, he stated that he will still be able to make recordings, he just does not intend to go on stage anymore.
“From concerts, I want to stop. But I want to keep composing and singing. I won’t stop messing with the music,” he said.
In the same interview, Milton said that he composed three tunes recently, one of which was titled “Luck in Love” which was signed by Ronaldo Bastos.
