On Sunday, the Coast Guard said the Port of Corpus Christi was closed after a “Zulu” condition was set up by Capt. All shipping and cargo operations have been suspended as strong winds are expected within 12 hours.
Corpus Christi, about 200 miles (322 km) from Houston, is a major US crude oil export hub. Due to the closure of ports, oil exports, crude oil exports to refineries and motor fuels from these plants will be temporarily halted.
Meanwhile the ports of Houston, Galveston, Freeport, and Texas City were under “Yankee” status. All inbound shipping at these ports has been suspended as strong winds are expected for the next 24 hours.
Chemical maker Chemours Co., which has a manufacturing facility near Corpus Christi, said Sunday it has coordinated hurricane preparedness programs, including drills and exercises, to ensure its sites are safe.
“We continue to monitor Beryl’s path and have expanded our hurricane preparedness plans to include planning for safe and appropriate personnel during and after the storm, and protecting our equipment and assets if the storm approaches our location,” the company said in an email. Report.
Freeport LNG said it had implemented its climate emergency response plan, but did not provide details. It said it intends to maintain normal operations at its liquefaction facility.
