Wild Persian crocodile caught Bangladesh – This species is believed to be extinct in the country, authorities announced on Tuesday (9).

A male crocodile is 2.3 meters long and has an estimated lifespan of between 10 and 12 years. He was found in a village in Faridpur district, central Bangladesh, in late July.

Its presence in the waters of the tributary of the Ganges, Padma, aroused the curiosity of many, about 15 thousand people, to approach the city to meditate on it, despite the siege in force against the Corona virus.

On Monday, local residents captured him while he was on the river bank.

Officials said the crocodile will be sent to a zoo.

It is believed that this freshwater animal may have reached Bangladesh via the 2,500 km long Ganges River, which enters Bangladesh from India.

Crocodylus palustris was last seen in the wild in this country half a century ago.

This species is still found in India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Its global population is estimated at between 5,400 and 7,100 individuals, according to researchers.
