The series “The Lord of the Rings” trades New Zealand to the UK

Amazon Studios on Thursday (8/12) announced that its original series “The Lord of the Rings” will be recording season 2 in the UK.

The long-awaited attraction recently finished filming Season 1 in New Zealand, using the same locations that saw JRR Tolkien’s work in Peter Jackson’s films.

“We would like to thank the people and government of New Zealand for their hospitality and commitment and for providing the ‘Lord of the Rings’ series with a wonderful place to embark on this epic journey,” said Vernon Sanders, co-chairman of Amazon Television. Studios, when announcing the change.

The change of locations is expected to affect the appearance of the series between seasons, but this is in line with Amazon’s plan to expand to the UK, where the company’s best films and series have already been produced.

Post-production for Season 1 will continue in New Zealand until June 2022, parallel to pre-production for Season 2, which will begin in the UK after January 1st.

The production was co-directed by Jodie Payne and Patrick McKay (screenwriters for “Star Trek: Without Borders”), their screenwriters Jennifer Hutchison (“Breaking Bad”) and Brian Cockman (who relied on their team with “Game of Thrones”). JA Bayona (“Jurassic World: The Threatened Kingdom”), Wayne Yip (“Doctor Who”) and Charlotte Brandstrom (“The Witcher”).
