Leaders of the United States, Germany, France and the United Kingdom are meeting at the G20 summit to discuss Iran

Leaders of the United States, Germany, France and the United Kingdom discussed ways to advance talks with Iran on Iran’s nuclear program during the G20 summit in Rome on Saturday.

Iran’s top nuclear negotiator said on Wednesday that Iran would resume talks with six world powers at the end of November with a view to reviving the 2015 nuclear deal.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron are scheduled to meet separately to discuss the issue.

Asked to enter the meeting when he wanted talks with Iran to resume, Biden simply responded: “They are scheduled to resume.”

A senior US official told reporters that the meeting was Merkel’s initiative and would give leaders a chance to talk about the topic ahead of the crisis.

“This will be a serious opportunity to check the symptoms before entering the most important moment,” the official said.

In April, Tehran and the six powers began discussing ways to save the 2015 agreement, which was abandoned by former US President Donald Trump three years ago.
