Only highly specialized teams are allowed to land on site.

It’s hard to land on an icy blue runway, Carlos Merbury, the airline’s pilot and vice president, said on the company’s website. “The depth is 1.4 kilometers of solid ice and no air. The important thing is that the colder the better.”

Landing and stopping the heavy A340 will not be a problem; At least in theory, as an A340 has never landed on icy blue ice before.”
