To celebrate 26 years without Mamonas Assassinas, an artist from Botucatu, São Paulo, used virtual intelligence and editing software to show how the five members of one of Brazil’s most beloved bands would be alive. Today’s group members are between 49 and 53 years old. Hidreley Diao, the author of the work, posted the photos as a tribute to his Instagram profile:

The plane crash that killed the band members turned 26 on Wednesday. The tragedy marked the end of the meteoric success of young and talented Dinho, Julio Rasec, Sergio Rioli, Samuel Rioli and Bento Heinoto.

The executive jet of the Mamonas Assassinas band crashed in Serra da Cantarera on March 2, 1996 while the group was returning from a concert in Brasilia. According to information received from the authorities, on the night of the accident, the plane flew over the trees, crossed the curtain of cold fog and crashed into the forest.

In addition to the musicians, the pilot Jorge Martins, his co-pilot Alberto Takeda, the security guard Sergio Saturnino Porto, and Isaac Soto, who was also Dinho’s cousin, also died. The incident shocked the country.
