In another sad episode of the crisis in Argentina, a nurse restrains herself at the gate of Casa Rosada, the country’s presidential residence, in Buenos Aires, demanding her arrest. She did not commit any crime, but she needs to eat and believes that only in prison will she have this right.
– Arrest me! what do you want? That I rob a bank? I want to eat! – The woman shouted at the police and security men who were trying to contain her.
The nurse says she has diabetes and that in prison in addition to food she will get the medicine she needs. In desperation, she also complains that her years in the profession have not helped her get better financial conditions.
– I have been studying nursing since I was 20 years old. Study, study, study. I work in the ICU, save lives, you [do policial] It is killed. I’ve seen police officers and saved their lives. You helped bring life back to the world. Arrest me and I’ll eat tonight.”
