Eight cases of monkeypox were confirmed in Minas Gerais on Wednesday (7/6). Only five new cases were registered yesterday. Twelve suspects are still under investigation. The Secretary of State for Health (SES) reported that six people infected are from Belo Horizonte, and two from the City of Lagos municipality.

The ages of the patients ranged from 23 to 46 years. One case has a potential place of contamination another country, abroad. Others may have been contaminated in São Paulo.

SES reported that the likely source of contamination in the eight cases was through close contact. All of them are in home isolation and their condition is stable.

Among the cases under investigation, six are residents of Belo Horizonte, the others are from Manara, Cactus, Governador Valadares and Galway, Ireland.

symptoms

Orthopoxvirus, the scientific name for the disease, can be transmitted through close or close contact between people. Small bruises on the skin, including the genitals, are the first symptoms, which may be accompanied by a fever and swelling in the neck.

People showing any of these symptoms should immediately look for the nearest health unit and avoid contact with other people.

Brazil

As of today, the Ministry of Health announced that 106 cases of the disease have been confirmed in Brazil. So Paulo is the state with the most cases, 75.

At this statistic, Minas Gerais still records only three confirmed cases of infection with the virus.
