Since Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden in the presidential race, the US controversy has taken a new turn. After four years in the background, Harris has revitalized the Democratic campaign and undermined Donald Trump’s confidence, shattering Republicans’ sense of early victory.
Not only did Harris achieve record fundraising and mobilize a growing army of volunteers, but he also accomplished something rare: uniting a fragmented Democratic Party around a common cause. This internal realignment brought a coherence to the campaign that Biden had not achieved with the same effectiveness. Also, Harris’ candidacy has given a renewed spirit within the party, bringing to the fore young figures of national prominence who are now actively campaigning for him.
Bookmakers who had previously backed Trump significantly reduced their margins for a Republican victory. Last week, Real Clear Politics showed Harris leading national polls for the first time: 48% for Trump vs. 46.8%, an increase of 1.2 percentage points. In swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona, Harris has turned the tables, and in Pennsylvania, for the first time since the beginning of the year, polls show a tie.
