More than 40 people were found dead in a truck near San Antonio, Texas, in the United States, on Monday (27).
Governor Greg Abbott said there were 42 dead. But the fire department said they found 46 bodies piled inside the car.
Firefighters said there were no children among the dead.
Sixteen people were found alive and taken to hospitals in the area, according to local government officials. According to the firefighters, 4 of the survivors are children.

The initial hypothesis is that the victims are immigrants, according to the “New York Times”. Everyone on the trailer is believed to have entered the United States illegally.
The authorities said that in the rescued group there were two Guatemalans, but there was no further information on the nationalities of the victims and other survivors.
Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said that the Mexican consul is heading to the scene and that the nationality of the victims is unknown.
The truck was discovered near the train tracks on the southwest side of San Antonio. The city is located about 250 kilometers from the US-Mexico border.
San Antonio police are looking for the driver who apparently left the truck.
Three people were arrested, but the police did not explain their connection to the case.
The US Department of Homeland Security took over the investigation.
