According to the South Korean Yonhap Agency, the South Korean armed forces reported the firing of unidentified projectiles, and according to the agency also, the information was passed on to reporters by the South Korean General Staff, but it was not detailed. The agency later said the projectiles were short-range ballistic missiles. Yonhap also cited that Pyongyang conducted ground-based cruise missile tests on Tuesday, after four rounds of weapons tests, including the launch of hypersonic missiles on Jan. 5 and 11. The projectile fired by North Korea on Wednesday (26th) landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, according to local government information, Kyodo News reported. North Korea in the region is a cause of diplomatic tension with neighboring countries, especially South Korea and Japan. In this context, Pyongyang faces economic sanctions from the United States aimed at curbing the nuclear program of the Asian country.
