Professor Maria Cleonis Nascimento, at the age of 78, died on Monday morning (01), at the Regional Hospital de Cajazeras, a victim of health complications caused by Covid-19.
Cleonis was born in Sousa, but lived in Cajazeras for many years and worked on the UFCG campus.
Dismayed friends lamented the teacher’s death, such as Congressman Jehovah Campos.
“I want to express my solidarity with all the teachers, friends and family of our teacher Cleonis. It was a pleasure to be a close friend of Cleonis, and to have a beer with her. Her passing leaves a strong sense of longing,” said the deputy audibly.

Retired UFCG server, Fatima Aquino, also highlighted her old friendship with Cleonice and how full of energy the teacher was.
“Shocked at the news of the death of our friend, teacher Maria Cleonis Nascimento. I heard about the consequences of Covid. I’m tired of ‘Comade Creó’, as he called her, of calling me to tell me some new jokes he was learning. So lively. I loved playing with everyone and taking life to heart. Grandfather. Call me emephaquine. Go with God, my dear. We will miss her here on earth.”
