a Republic President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said on Sunday that he wants to end the war in Ukraine before the end of the year.
The head of state’s comments come after Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on Saturday that he believed the war could be over by the end of the year.
“One of the contenders in the war, Ukraine, has hinted that he expects a positive result by the end of the year; I hope the result will be before the end of the year because it is clear that these effects are accumulating, however they can be mitigated.”
On the eve of the new increase in fuel prices, journalists questioned the president, in the Palacio de Belém parks, about whether there is room for the government to reduce the tax burden further.
Without a direct answer to the question, Marcello noted that “the problem at the moment is the effects of the war and the duration of the war, and noted that ‘several European countries’ are trying to become ‘less dependent from the point of view of energy and fuel, what is the effect of the war'”.
“We will see how long the war will last and how these shocks that affect the entire Portuguese economy can be mitigated,” he said, referring to the issue of transport, communications and industries.
