What color do you see?
This image was pasted by Akiyoshi Kitaoka from Ritsumeikan University in Japan. The psychologist shared a tweet about an image of a strawberry pie that left many users confused. In this way, he was able to show everyone that colorful illusions are also possible and our brain can often deceive us in these situations. See the picture below:
what’s up? Have you seen blue or red strawberries? Or did you see a red shade with bluish light all over the picture? Most users reported seeing red, but the Japanese scientist explained that he removed the pixels of that color from the image, and changed them to cyan and gray.
Why do some people see red strawberries?
According to a study published by CellPress, our brains perceive a color whenever we see it for a longer period of time. So, since we are so used to seeing red strawberries, our brains end up assigning these colors to the image, even if the pixels are removed.
Other everyday objects are also associated with a specific color, such as bananas, which are usually yellow. Behavioral studies also show that the perception of these items, called color-diagnosing objects, is influenced by our knowledge of their typical color, referred to as memory color.
This phenomenon is also known as “cortical coloration” because it occurs through the visual cortex located in the occipital lobe of our brain.
