UK telcos have already begun removing Huawei from 5G networks in the UK. Since November 2021, the government has legislated to restrict the use of equipment from suppliers whose national security interests are at high risk to public networks.
According to the government, the new law will ensure that UK’s mobile networks are safe and secure as 5G is gradually integrated into national infrastructure, businesses and day-to-day operations.
While Huawei is classified by the UK government as a high-risk provider, telecommunications operators must:
⁇ Remove all Huawei devices from 5G networks by the end of 2027.
⁇ Do not install Huawei devices on 5G networks.
⁇ Remove all Huawei devices from telecommunications networks by January 28, 2023.
⁇ Do not install Huawei devices allowed on full fiber networks.
⁇ Reduce the share of Huawei devices to 35% on full-fiber and 5G (ie non-core) access networks by July 31, 2023.
⁇ Remove Huawei’s High Data Rate Intracore and Interoperator Transmission Equipment from all networks by December 31, 2025.
