Skyports Infrastructure has revealed designs for its first UK vertiport trial for the electric air taxi industry, with partners Bicester Motion to build an electric takeoff and takeoff on a 1.8 square kilometer Future Mobility Estate in Bicester, Oxfordshire, and aerospace firm Vertical Aerospace. Airplane. (eVTOL).
Images published with planning permission from Cherwell District Council. It is the first UK Verdiport infrastructure project to receive planning consent.
The images show the Verdiport positioned alongside Bicester Motion’s existing public aviation grass runways, continuing the airport’s long history of aerospace innovation. The Verdiport will include a small 160 square meter passenger terminal, which will be a key facility for testing ground infrastructure and flight operations and will play a significant role in enabling the next generation of low-noise, electric aviation in the UK.
New drawings show Vertical’s latest VX4 prototype, the first eVTOL to fly at Skyports’ Vertiport. The VX4 Pilot is designed to carry four passengers and has a range of up to 160 km. The aircraft successfully completed its first connected pilot flight in July and is now progressing through its pilot test flight program. Vertical Skyports use the Vertiport to conduct demonstration flights and test key procedures prior to commercial launch.
The new images also show the interior of the Vertiport, which will be equipped with Skyports’ proprietary Vertiport technology solutions, including the Resource Management and Scheduling System (RMSS) and the Vertiport Automation System (VAS).
The Verdiport is being developed as part of the Advanced Mobility Ecosystem Consortium: a group of leading British aviation, technology and transport companies pioneering AAM in the UK with support from the UK Research and Innovation Future Aviation Challenge (UKRI). The Verdiport will serve as a key hub for the consortium’s wider testing program, including demonstration flights, ground operations, flight coordination and public and stakeholder engagement.
