The project will bring cheap energy from Russia to Germany, Victoria Noland made the statement

Washington, TASS – US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said she believes the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project is currently “dead” and unlikely to be “revived”.

During a hearing of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday, a senator asked Nuland if he thought Washington’s sanctions against Nord Stream 2 should be permanent.

“I think Nord Stream 2 is now dead and will never be revived,” she said.

On February 22, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the German government had halted the approval process for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project after Russia recognized the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. The next day, US President Joe Biden instructed the government to impose sanctions on Nord Stream 2 AG and representatives of its leadership in response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Nord Stream 2 was fully completed on September 10, 2021. Initially, it was scheduled to be completed before the end of 2019, but due to Washington sanctions, construction was delayed. The pipeline consists of two chains with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters per year, which runs from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany.
