Without partners, Ligue 1 and Serie A are the only calls for live streaming in England

Without partners, Ligue 1 and Serie A are the only calls for live streaming in England

The Call 1 (France) and The Siri A (Italy) decided to follow the only possible path, at least for now, so that they can broadcast the 2024/2025 season in one of the main European markets, the United Kingdom and Ireland. With no partners in either country, both matches opted to go for live streaming.

In the case of the French league, which cannot be renewed with TNT Sports for the 2024/2025 to 2028/2029 cycle, it was decided to show all games live on its own streaming platform. 1 Call the pass£9.99 per month. Powered by Endeavor Streaming, Ligue 1 Pass includes exclusive original content and new features that will be introduced in the 2024/2025 season.

According to British website Sportspro Media, LFP Media, the commercial arm of Ligue 1, wants to collaborate with the Franco-British Chamber of Commerce and Industry to promote the streaming offering to French communities in London and across the UK.

Italian Championship

Distributed by the Italian League A footballIt is responsible for showing all 380 games of the season on British and Irish soil through a range of subscription options. Viewers can watch individual matches on pay-per-view for £4.99, as well as a club subscription for £79.99 or a season-wide subscription for £99.99.

However, unlike Ligue 1, Serie A has a UK broadcast deal with TNT Sports to complement OneFootball’s coverage (which will also show short video-related content such as match highlights and post-game programmes). This means eight games per week will be shown exclusively on the streaming site, while the remaining two will be broadcast by the two media outlets.

To give you an idea, in the previous deal, TNT Sports showed at least five games per round. With only two agreed for 2024/2025, the competition’s organiser, Lega Serie A, felt it was important to ensure more exposure for its flagship competition.

According to SportsPro Media, the lack of deals for two major European tournaments in a key market like the United Kingdom “points to a broader challenge for some of Europe’s top soccer leagues, which face difficult market conditions when selling their broadcast rights internationally.” Ligue 1, for example, also started the current season without agreements in Spain and the Netherlands, while Serie A still lacks a media partner in France.
